6 ways to gain more time for training

Probably the most common reason people struggle to train consistently is a lack of time. If you find yourself skipping sessions because you don't have the time, you might be able to shorten them down. Here are a few ways you can do that.

1) Stop over-warming up

You probably don't need to spend 5-10 mins on the bike, 5-10 mins stretching, and another 5 minutes doing warm-up sets before hitting your working sets. A quick couple of mobility movements before your warm-up sets is all you need.

2) Leave your phone in your bag or on Do Not Disturb

Don't let yourself get distracted by notifications while training. There's even research that reports spending time on social media increases your perception of effort during training.

3) Improve your work capacity

Improving your ability to recover between sets will help you do more work, faster. If you need 5 minutes rest between sets, working on your conditioning will help you recover faster and get more out of your training.

4) Use supersets

Supersetting two exercises can help you save loads of time while getting more training done. Pair together two exercises that use different muscle groups so you're not as fatigued heading into the other one.

5) Choose exercises that require less set-up

Using dumbbells or machines can help you save time you'd normally spend loading and deloading a barbell.

6) Have a backup plan when equipment is taken

Chest fly machine is taken? Do a dumbbell chest fly. Leg press is being used? Smash out some squats. Knowing what alternative exercises you can do helps you keep things moving, and you won't get stuck waiting for one piece of equipment.

I have plenty more tips like these that I provide with my coaching services. Book a free consult if you're interested in getting time back for your training.
