Long-term progress is where the real value is

Lately I've been providing a lot of advice to people for free. I'm more than happy to talk about what exercises people should do and what their training should look like.

After someone asked for some help training for their footy, I offered to write them a few sessions for free. They asked me what the catch was, and why I would give them so much.

There's no catch. Here are the sessions — go get after it.

Yes, there can be a lot of value in giving people a starting point, but the real value is helping people manage their training over the long term.

You don't automatically make great progress because you start doing a few relevant exercises. Great progress is made when you know how to train hard, when you're accountable to someone, and when you are consistent over the long term.

It's very easy to narrow your focus on the short term and try to optimise everything with the perfect training program, the perfect technique, or by perfecting your nutrition.

But honestly, what matters most is doing the majority of things reasonably well over a long period of time.
